Compress PDF
Compress a PDF online — reduce file size in our secure workspace
Drop a PDF below to rebuild it with a tighter internal structure so it takes up less space. Like the rest of the core toolkit, compression happens inside this workspace session, so the document is never uploaded and the bytes are wiped as soon as you are done.

What you get
Nothing leaves our secure processing layer
Compression uses a private PDF engine — no upload, no queue, no server copy.
Text stays sharp
Structural compression keeps text selectable rather than flattening the page into a blurry image.
See the before and after
Original and compressed sizes are shown side by side before you download.
Free and unbranded
No watermark is added and no account is required to try it.

Press Compress. Layers rebuilds the file with object streams and removes redundant internal data.
- 3
Check the saving
The tool shows the original size next to the new size so you can see exactly how much you saved.
- 4
Download the smaller file
Save the compressed PDF, or open the workspace to combine compression with merging, splitting or page cleanup.
Common questions
How much smaller will my PDF get?
It depends on the document. Files exported from word processors and design tools often carry a lot of redundant structure and shrink noticeably; a PDF that is mostly large photographs will shrink less.
Does compressing reduce the quality?
The text and vector content are untouched, so nothing becomes blurry. Layers rebuilds the file structure rather than re-encoding your page images.
Is my document uploaded anywhere?
No. Compression runs in our secure workspace, and the file bytes are cleared from memory once you download or close the tab.
Why is my file barely smaller?
Some PDFs are already optimised. If yours is dominated by high-resolution photos, exporting the images at a lower resolution before building the PDF will help more than any compressor.
Do I need an account?
No. Compression is free for guests within the daily action allowance.
